What Is WordPress?

WordPress is a free and open source blogging tool and a content management system (CMS) based on PHP and MySQL. It enables you to build Websites and powerful on-line applications and requires almost no technical skills or knowledge to manage. Many aspects, including its ease of use and extensibility, have made WordPress the most popular Web site software available.

What is a WordPress Theme?

A WordPress Theme is a skin for a website built with the WordPress CMS platform. In other words, you can easily change your WordPress Web site appearance by installing a new Theme in a few easy steps. With all its simplicity, a WordPress Theme is provided with all the necessary source files and you are free to edit or extend it the way you need.

Theme Installation

Download the zipped theme pack to your local computer from themeforest and extract the ZIP file contents to a folder on your local computer.

1. Navigate to Appearance > Themes.
2. Click Install Themes and hit the Upload Theme button.
3. Navigate to find the “discy.zip” file on your computer and click “Install Now”
4. Once uploaded, activate the theme. Go to Appearance > Themes and activate it.

Uploading discy via FTP to Wordpress

Download the zipped theme pack to your local computer from themeforest and extract the ZIP file contents to a folder on your local computer.

1. Log into your hosting space via an FTP software
2. Unzip the discy.zip file and ONLY use the extracted discy theme folder
3. Upload the extracted discy theme folder into wp-content > themes folder
4. Activate the newly installed theme. Go to Appearance > Themes and activate it.

Plugins Installation

In order for the theme to work properly we require a plugin to be installed and activated via the top info message in the image below:

1. Click on "Begin activating plugins".
2. Install they first.
3. Then activate they like image 2.

Updating Theme

Download the zipped theme pack to your local computer from themeforest and extract the ZIP file contents to a folder on your local computer.

1. Unzip the package and locate discy.zip in the theme folder.
2. Go to Appearance > Themes and activate another theme such as the default WordPress theme.
3. Delete the discy theme which is now inactive.
4. Go to Install Themes > Upload then install and activate discy.zip from the new package.

Import All Demo Content

1. Log into your site as an administrator.
2. Make sure you activated your new theme before proceeding.
3. Go to Tools → Import
4. Choose “WordPress” from the list.
5. Upload the demo content .xml using the form provided on that page.
6. You will be asked to map the authors in this export file to users on the blog. For each author, you may choose to map to an existing user on the blog or to create a new user.
7. You will then have the choice to import attachments, so click on the “Download and import file attachments” box.
8. Please be patient while WordPress imports all the content. Posts, Pages, Questions, and Menus are imported. You will need assign the menu a theme location & you’ll need to configure widgets. This is a limitation of WordPress’ import system.

Translation Plugin

We need to translate or change some words in English at 2 files, First file at the theme and the anther one in the plugin.

So the firsts file at discy/languages and the second file at WPQA/languages.

Translation by Loco Translate

Download the plugin here.

1. After install and active the plugin will see Loco Translate in the menu, Click on it.
2. Will find the active theme and the active plugins.
3. Click on "WPQA - The WordPress Questions And Answers Plugin".
4. Click on "New language".
5. Will open this page.
   
   
   
6. Choose your language English (United States), Arabic, or anythings and Choose the Custom location to not lost the edits after each update.
7. The language you choose it and it will show at your site you must select it from the WordPress setting.
   
   
   
8. After that click on "Start translating".
   
   
   
9. Click on "Sync" to update the last change at the language file.
   
   
   
10. Then find in "Filter translations" any things you need to search.
11. Then click on the sentences do you need to change it or translate it and at the Translation section add your words.

Translation by poedit program

Download the program from here.

1. Open this path at the plugin WPQA/languages.
2. Find this file wpqa.pot and open it by poedit after download it.
3. Click on "Create New Translation"

Custom Menus

To create a custom navigation menu

1. Go to Appearance > Menu
2. Click on "create a new menu" to create a new menu (eg. Main Menu).
3. Add the menu items from the left panels
4. To create dropdown menu: drag the menu item toward the right (the item(s) will be indented)
5. When you are done adding the menu items, click "Save Menu"

To assign menu locations

Scroll down to the bottom where it says "Theme locations" and tick the menu location checkbox

1. Menu left - not logged = menu in the left area when user not logged
2. Menu left - logged = menu in the left area when user logged
3. Header menu - not logged = menu in the header when user not logged
4. Header menu - logged = menu in the header when user logged

If you wont to add profile links or poll questions link

1. From the top choose screen options
2. Select WPQA - Custom Links
3. First one is "polls" and this to show all the poll questions
4. All the others are links for the user profile

General settings

1. Active the lightbox at the site or not, Because someone need to stop it to can use another plugin.
2. Active the font awesome at the site or not to can use more icons.
3. Active the loader at the site or not.
4. Choose the data format and see this link to know the format.
5. Choose the time format and see this link to know the format.
6. Choose what's the excerpt type, Words or Characters
7. Active the top bar for the WordPress or not.
8. Enable the SEO at the theme or not, like SEO keywords, Facebook meta, Twitter meta....
9. Facebook share image, when you share the site at Facebook, If not upload it will share the logo.
10. Header code, It's mean the head area, and you can add the Google Analytics for example.
11. Footer code, you can add any JS for example at the footer.
12. SEO keywords, the meta tags you need to add it at your site like this : questions, answers, q and a,....
13. When login at the WordPress admin, you can upload your logo.
14. Add the height for the logo for the WordPress admin login.
15. Add the width for the logo for the WordPress admin login.
16. Custom favicon for the site.

Header settings

Header settings

1. Choose the header style, and the difference between them, is the header height only.
2. Logo display by site name or upload logo.
3. If choose custom image, upload your logo.

5. Choose the height for the main logo not retina.
6. Choose the width for the main logo not retina.
7. Choose if you need the top search or not.

1. If you active the fixed header at the header setting you can stop the fixed header at the mobile.

Posts & Loop setting

1. Choose the post style, 1 columns or list style.
2. Choose the category description active or not.
3. If you active the category description, choose you need the RSS link for the category or not.

6. Hide the featured image at the posts loop.
7. Remove the read more button or not at the posts loop.
8. Number of the Words or Characters.
9. Pagination style at this posts.

Add - Edit - Delete

1. Type your slug for the add post page, and to see the link for it after the input you need to refresh the page after save the options.
2. Active any one can add post, logged users can add post.
3. Choose the posts go to review before published it or not, If you choose "Draft" this will go to review first.
4. Active this option to send email for the admin when some one add the post and this post need to review before publish.
5. Tags available at the post form or not.
6. Active the attachment at the post form or not, If you active it and the users upload the image will upload at the featured image.
7. Details textarea available at the post form or not.
8. Active the editor for the details textarea or not.
9. Active the edit post for the users or not.
10. Type your slug for the edit post page.
11. When users edit the post make the post need a review again or not.
12. Active the delete post for the users or not.
13. When the user delete post will delete it for ever or send to trash.

Post meta setting

1. Choose what's meta show at the posts loop.

Inner pages setting

1. Sort the main 5 section at inner pages by remove them or drag and drop them.
2. Hide the featured image at inner pages.
3. If you uploaded Featured Image and you can choose the default size, 2 sizes with the theme or your custom size.
4. If you uploaded Featured Image and choose the custom size, you can set the width.
5. If you uploaded Featured Image and choose the custom size, you can set the height.
6. Post tags show or not at the posts.
7. Active the next and prev post by the same category only or not.

Share setting

1. Choose what's the share show at posts loop, drag and drop them.

Related setting

1. Choose the related style, style 1 is images with titles, style 2 is links only.
2. Choose the number of the posts are show at the all post layouts.
3. Choose the number of the posts are show at the all post with sidebar layout.
4. Choose the number of the posts are show at the all post full width layout.
5. The related posts worked by same categories, same tags or same author.
6. Number of Words or Characters like you choose from the Discy setting.
7. Comment at the related active or not, It works only at the style 1.
8. Date at the related active or not, It works only at the style 1.

2. Choose what's sidebar will show at posts.
3. Choose one of the skins are come with the theme.
4. Or choose your custom color like you need.

   2. None : if you have a background style at the site but choose here none will remove it at the archive, categories, tags and inner posts.
   3. Patterns : Will can choose background color and pattern like next items at "Background Color and Choose Pattern".
   4. Custom Background : If you don't need the pattern images you can upload your custom image and choose the attributes for it.
6. Background Color when choose from the background type "Patterns".

Questions settings

General settings

1. Active the ajax at the site with WordPress file or file at the theme, The difference here if you choose the WordPress file with some plugins not work, so choose the theme file.
2. Show the filter for the categories at the question categories and archive.
3. Choose the question category description active or not.
4. If you active the question category description, choose you need the RSS link for the question category or not.
5. Choose the question tag description active or not.
6. If you active the question tag description, choose you need the RSS link for the question tag or not.
7. Active the points system at the site or not.
8. When delete the questions or answers and they have a best answer, remove the best answers and points for all the site and users.
9. Active the reports at the questions and answers at the site or not.
10. Active the reports for the logged users only or not.
11. Active the vote at the site or not.
12. Active the pop up data for the author when hover at the authors image.

Question slugs

1. Type your question slug for the questions.
2. Type your slug for the question category.
3. Type your slug for the tag category.

Add - Edit - Delete

1. Active any one can add question, logged users can add question.
2. When users add a question will charge some points or not.
3. If yes, Add the points will charge.
4. This points will back for the user when the best answer was selected at this question or not.
5. Or add the points number you need to back for the user.
6. Choose the questions go to review before published it or not, If you choose "Draft" this will go to review first.
7. Active this option to send email for the admin when some one add the question and this question need to review before publish.
8. Send emails for the users who checked the notification when edit his profile.
9. Choose what's the groups will active for them the notification options.

3. Add your coupons by add the name, discount type, amount and expiry date, Sure you can leave the expiry date empty to make this coupon free for ever.

Captcha setting

1. Active captcha at add question form or not.

2. Add all your badges, And make sure when add it, it work with small to big like screenshot, for example we add the first badge 10 and the second badge is 50, so the users have 0 points to 10 will show the first badge and from 11 to 50 will show the next badge.

1. Add the details for the points you need to show it at the badges template page.
2. All those are the points will users get them when make they actions.

3. If you choose Featured Image and choose the custom size, you can set the width.
4. If you choose Featured Image and choose the custom size, you can set the height.
5. If choose Google Map, Put the google map iframe.
6. If you choose Audio, Put your URL for the MP3 and you need to upload it first from media at the WordPress/wp-admin/upload.php.
7. If you choose Slideshow, there are 2 options, Custom Slideshow or Upload your images.
